About This Motorcycle

“Ducati’s Multistrada Pikes Peak has been one of the firm’s key high-end models for years as a mark of the company’s successes at the famous Race to the Clouds in Colorado but since the launch of the all-new Multistrada V4 it’s been missing from the range. Not anymore, though, as Ducati has created a new Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak for 2022. As the sportiest Multistrada V4 yet, the Pikes Peak is much more strada than multi, with a very clear focus on asphalt use at the expense of some of the other versions’ all-surface ability. The changes include new suspension, smaller 17-inch wheels to suit the stickiest of rubber and revised frame geometry to make the whole package come together”.

Underneath lies the same 170hp ‘Granturismo’ V4 engine, an 1,158cc offshoot of the 1,103cc unit used in the Panigale V4 superbike. Like the other machines in the range, the peak power arrives at 10,500rpm, with max torque of 92lbft coming at 8,750rpm. For the Pikes Peak, the only engine update is the addition of a new ‘Race’ riding mode, altering the rev limiter behaviour to encourage you to explore the higher reaches of the tacho more, while the standard equipment quickshifter gets new programming to allow more aggressive downshifts and the throttle response is quickened in ‘High Power’ mode. But while the engine is familiar the bike wrapped around it is significantly revised.

The Ohlins electronic suspension is the same kit you will find on the Streetfighter V4 S and Panigale V4 S, which Ducati’s Motorcycles feels is better suited for this road application than the off-road focused Skyhook suspension system. At the touch of a button, one can dial in luxury touring comfort to Panigale sportiness.

New to the Multistrada platform is the Race mode, which offers racetrack throttle response. This tech is transferred over from its superbike cousin. Pair that with the forged-aluminum 17” wheels that save a massive 8.8 pounds of unsprung weight, makes this MS incredibly agile and flickable. One bike for touring and track days? Yes, please.
