“In the early â60âs Herr Aufrecht and Melcher built engines for Mercedesâ rally cars. When MB pulled the plug on the program, the two engineers resigned and formed AMG, modifying Mercs for private race teams. AMG soon discovered a ready market for more muscular street-legal Mercs. The ‘Wide Body’ version of the 560 SEC by AMG is an impressive machine when stationary. However, it’s only in driving it that the powerful monster takes hold, with the roof open and windows down, the demonic roar illustrating AMG’s excessive know-how in this era of no limits! The AMG-fettled motor generates 385 hp @ 5,500 rpm and puts 410 lb-ft of torque @ 4,000 rpm underfoot. The four-seat two-door sprints from zero to sixty in under six seconds. Itâs nimble enough â far more nimble than youâd think. And the Master of the Universe on Amphetamines look has stood the test of time. Despite the long production run, AMG only made 50 Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC AMG 6.0. So these early Uber coupes have grown into being some of the most valuable German cars of the era only recently, but given their rarity, blistering performance, and build quality plus the staying power of the Mercedes and AMG brands, the future looks bright”.
