“It was in 1984 that Porsche won the 7500-mile Paris-Dakar Rally using a transmogrified G-Series 911 with 270 litres of fuel capacity and a manually locking centre diff and permitting nearly 300mm of wheel travel, though the 3.2-litre flat six in the back was largely unchanged from the road cars. French rally veterans René Metge and his co-driver Dominique Lemoyne took the radically new 911 to victory in its first appearance. It is the first time in the history of the Paris-Dakar that a sports car has won.It was known as the 953, and as well as surprising all and sundry by being the first dedicated sports car to win the world’s most grueling rough-road race, it paved the way for the more famous (and similarly Rothmans-liveried) 959 Paris-Dakar. Porsche presented the 911 Dakar at the Los Angeles Motor Show, produced in 2,500 units to pay homage to the brand’s past in rally raids with SUV looks, all-terrain suspension and GT3 abilities. This unusual, potentially very special model arrived at a time when Porsche is expressing itself more freely than ever with an off-road sports car, therefore capable of bringing together opposing desires”.
The 911 Dakar is presented in flawless as new condition and accompanied by all equipment as supplied by the manufacturer including the dealer-installed highly coveted roof basket by Porsche Tequipment, complete with integrated auxiliary headlights, roof transport system, water canisters, and holders, folding shovel, and tie-downs, recovery boards and pins, four straps and branded duffle bag.
The automobile is sold with its original 4-year / 50,000 miles factory warranty valid through September 11, 2028.
